NorthTec is the Northland’s largest provider of tertiary education, with campuses and learning centres in Whangarei City and Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands, and learning centres in Rawene on the shores of the Hokianga, Kaikohe and in Kaitaia. NorthTec serves a population base of approximately 160,000.
Offering more than 100 courses, NorthTec has a range of programmes in health, science, business, technology, tourism, education, Māori studies and the arts. These programmes cater for student learning from NZQA Levels 1 to 7.
NorthTec's flexible programme structure has some courses being offered by providers closer to where students live, and some courses can be done by distance or remote learning.
Support, encouragement and real outcomes
Small class sizes and passionate, knowledgeable tutors, mean you’ll receive the encouragement and support you need to learn and to succeed in your chosen field, while NorthTec's close links to industry help provide real and actual employment outcomes.
NorthTec does not offer hostel accommodation but has an active programme which helps students from outside the region to find homestay places or board. Flatting is a popular and cheap option for students with houses renting for a lot less in Whangarei than in bigger centres.
NorthTec's introductory or foundation courses are a good entry point if you do not have a great NCEA outcome from school. These can help you develop core skills, gain confidence and progress into further study or a career.
