Unitec will prepare school leavers for an apprenticeship or traineeship by providing the education and training needed to gain the skills for the trade. The programmes offered are closely linked with the relevant trades industries who recognise the  quality of Unitec graduate apprentices. Unitec provides the training and education for apprenticeships in these areas: AutomotiveBuilding, Electrical,  Furniture and cabinetmaking along with Plumbing and gasfitting

Unitec provides an extensive range of foundation or bridging programmes for school leavers who may not have enough NCEA grades to start degree study. These programmes, most of 16-weeks duration, really make the step into degree studies at Unitec or elsewhere able to be achieved.
