Got 80 credits at NCEA Level 2?
If you have finished school with at least 80 credits at NCEA Level 2, the NZIS tertiary programme offers two years of courses. The first of these is the NZIS Diploma in Sport Management and Exercise Prescription (NZQA Level 5), which introduces students to all aspects of the industry. When you have completed this year, you are ready for entry-level jobs such as Sport Coordinators in schools, Gym Instructors, and Event Management Assistants.
In the second year Diploma programme (NZQA Level 6), you can specialise in your area of interest, either Advanced Sport Management or Advanced Exercise Prescription (exercise programming).
Train further through other tertiary institutions
For those wanting to take it all the way, NZIS has teamed with Victoria University in Melbourne and the Open Polytechnic to offer students the chance to enter the third year of degree studies at both institutions. At the Open Polytechnic, students can study for a bachelor of Applied Science or a Bachelor of Applied Management. The Victoria course leads to a Bachelor of Human Movement and opportunities to study further are also available.
The staff at NZIS are highly qualified and many are top sportspeople in their own right. The list of successful graduates and alumni is impressive too, with NZIS students going on to represent NZ in virtually every sporting discipline from the All Blacks and National Netball teams down.
NZIS has established specialist Rugby, Rugby League and High Performance Sporting Academies, these designed to not just foster talent but to maximise students’ chances of success in their chosen sport.
